DescriptionWyly Martin Autograph Endorsement Signed, 8" x 9", City of Richmond, February 1841. Martin writes and attestation of prices realized for the stock of the estate of James Stuart. Martin signs as judge of probate, alongside the estate administrator, who signs with her mark. Above Martin's endorsement is the actual listing of the stock with prices paid in October 1840. Matted and framed to an overall size of 15.25" x 21".
Condition: Evenly toned, with minor chipping occurring at folds along margin affecting a few words.
Wyly Martin (1776-1842) arrived in Texas in 1825 and was quickly appointed alcalde of Stephen Austin's colony. He served as a delegate from San Felipe de Austin in 1832, 1833, and 1835, but always as a member of the "Peace party". He would finally change his position and sign the declaration of war on November 7, 1835. He served as an officer in the army until resigning in May 1836. During his service, he was a vocal opponent of Sam Houston.
