Winston Churchill Letter Signed "Winston S. Churchill", as President of the Board of Trade. One page of a bifolium, 5" x 8", Whitehall Gardens; October 21, 1908. Addressed to Reverend J. Wales Cameron in full: "I should regard it as a great pleasure and a very high honour to be associated with the Students of Edinburgh, and to attend the meetings of the University Court. I should use all means in my power to promote the interests of the University and of its great Medical School." The body of the letter was likely written by Churchill's secretary Edward Marsh, who pens a second letter included in the lot. One typed page, 4.75" x 7.5", Whitehall Gardens; May 19, 1908. Sighed "Edward." Also on Board of Trade stationery, Marsh writes an intriguing letter to Cameron, referring to a "very funny" situation, and thanking Cameron for the "pit which yawns in front of Churchill, adding, "He was of course entirely ignorant that he was contravening a tittle of the law."

Churchill served briefly as President of the Board of Trade from April 12, 1908 through February 14, 1910, as the youngest Cabinet member since the mid-1800s. He later went on to become Prime Minister and led the United Kingdom through World War II.

Condition: Flattened mail folds. Light toning at edges. Minor spots of soiling. Boldly signed.
