William Nathan Harold Smith Autograph Letter Signed. Four pages, 9.25" x 11.25", bifolium, Richmond, January 16, 1864, to Dr. R.H. Winborne. Smith, a representative in the Confederate Congress, writes a scathing condemnation of another letter, by a "Dr. Manneis [representative for Tennessee in the Confederate Congress, Dr Thomas Menees?]" attacking his positions on several issues.

It reads in part: "It is untruthful, disingenuous and abounding in demagogueism of the lowest type...Mr. Gannon is too intelligent not to see its meaning himself, and of his high character to be made the instrument of deceiving others. It is harmful to witness the use of such low arts and cunning for personal ends, in the midst of such a struggle as now engages all the energies & resources of the country..."

Condition: Scattered foxing, some staining, especially near the internal vertical fold, weakness and very slight paper loss at two folds, some fading to the handwriting.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
