    William H. Taft Autograph Letter Signed. Written on "Charles D. Hilles/ Washington, D.C." stationery, 8" x 4", n.d., thanking "Harry" for his organization's hard work. Fine.

    More Information:

    "Charles D. Hilles/ Washington, D.C." has been inlaid in the left-center of the page and the entire letter mounted on rice paper. Hilles was a New Yorker serving as Taft's secretary from 1911-1912. He later (1912-1916) served as Republican National Committee chairman. In full: "I can not speak too warmly of my gratitude to you, and your associates for the magnificent work you have done by your thorough organization and the hardest kind of work - I know what you were up against. I marvel at your success with the load I was to carry."
