William H. Taft Autograph Letter Signed as President Great content ALS "Wm H Taft" on White House letterhead, 2 pages (sides one and four of a single sheet), 4.75" x 7.75", Dec. 11, 1912, to his brother Horace. He writes: "It seems pretty well settled that we shall be gone to Panama from the night of the 19th till noon of the 31st of December... I have done nothing more about the Kent Professorship but everybody with whom I talk seems to favor acceptance. We are rather quiet now. There is nothing except negotiation over the Canal Treaty and Canal law..." Written near the end of his presidential term, Taft discusses plans for his post-presidency. Ironically, Taft had began his presidency with a visit to the Panama Canal scheduled as President-elect in 1908. His interest in the Canal had begun years earlier, and his term as president focused great efforts on the Canal's completion. Begun in 1880, the Canal would finally be completed in 1913. As Taft relates in his letter, he had been offered the Kent Professorship of Law at Yale University, a post that he would accept only a week later. Horace Taft, the recipient of this letter, was founder of Taft preparatory school in Watertown, Connecticut. Usual mail folds, this letter is in fine condition and ideal for display.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
