    Description

    William H. Seward and Salmon P. Chase: Letter and Document. 1) 7.75" x 9.75" Autograph Letter Signed [ALS], Washington, D.C., March 10, 1869, to Secretary of the Navy William B. Preston. Seward uses the letter to introduce an office seeker who desires a personal interview with the Secretary. Normal folds. A clean example. 2) 12" x 10.5" printed and manuscript document, signed by S. P. Chase as Governor, April 17, 1857, appointing John H. James as Assistant Quarter Master General of the 8th Division Ohio Volunteer Militia. Also signed by the Secretary of State and endorsed on verso by the Division Inspector. Normal folds. Some bleed-through of endorsement. Both Seward and Chase served in the Cabinet of Abraham Lincoln.
