    Description

William Fargo Manuscript Document Signed, "Wm. G. Fargo," three times, nine pages, 9.5" x 15.5", Buffalo, New York, May 1, 1874. This, the Last Will and Testament of William G. Fargo, gives a rare and fascinating glimpse into the personal fortune amassed by an enterprising 19th century American tycoon. William George Fargo (1818 - 1881), President of American Express Co. after 1866, embodied the classic rags-to-riches tales that were so inspiring to would-be magnates during the Gilded Age. Fargo's will leaves household luxuries such as "pictures, bronzes, statuary" to his wife Anna, while more practical bequests in the forms of cash and real estate are divided among his father, wife, sisters, children and grand-children. Light soiling, else very fine condition.
