William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody Signed Bank Check with Book Signed by Mrs. Johnny Baker. Two items, as follows.
Check: A printed bank check from the Bank of Charles McDonald of North Platte, Nebraska, filled in by hand by Cody dated "Febry 24 1894", payable to "Myself" for "200.00/ Two hundred" dollars, and signed "W. F. Cody". A light rubber stamp bank cancellation touches the signature but does not detract. 7" x 2.875", very fine. Included is the storage envelope with a handwritten note on the front: "Buffalo Bills Check of Sonnys". Buffalo Bill's Scout's Rest ranch was located in North Platte. This check was written just a few months after the close of the World's Columbian Exposition next door to which Buffalo Bill had set up his popular show.
Book: Life and Adventures of Buffalo Bill by Colonel Wm. F. Cody, copyright 1939 by Mrs. "Johnny" Baker. Red cloth, 352 pages, illustrated. Signed on the free front endpaper bearing a "Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum" stamp: "To 'Sonny'/ from/ Mrs. 'Johnny' Baker/ Foster Daughter-in-Law/ of/ 'Buffalo Bill'/ Oct. 15th 1939". Very good. Johnny Baker was a young sharpshooter in Buffalo Bill's show and was known as his foster son. After Baker's days of performing, he managed and booked the show worldwide. He established the memorial museum after Buffalo Bill's death in 1917.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
