    Description

    W. R. Burnett Typed Letter Signed "Bill Burnett." One page, 7.25" x 10.25", no place; October 17, 1956. Typed on Burnett's personal stationery, addressed to a recipient only identified as "Vincent" from West Los Angeles. Burnett writes about getting older, his family, and how the industry has changed. The letter reads in part: "...I remember that I made quite a nuisance of myself and that you were very patient with a very brash young man. I'm not so brash now at 58...I am married, for the second time, and have two sons, now 9 and 8, who are quite a trial but a lot of fun. Luckily neither one of them shows the slightest signs of becoming a writer. They seem to be interested in nothing but athletics and jet planes. Things are in a state of chaos out here. The big days of the movies are definitely over, and TV seems to be going no place. However, I still manage to make a living, as I've done out here for nearly thirty years."

William R. Burnett (1899-1982) was an American author and screenwriter, best known for his book Little Caesar. The book was soon adapted into a film, which became one of the first American gangster films. Letter has flattened mail folds and minor creasing at the corners. Boldly signed. Very Good.
