    Description

Victoriano Huerta Military Appointment Signed as President. One page of a bifolium, 11" x 16.5". Executive Palace in Mexico, February 21, 1913. Appointing Juan B. Avila a Brigadier General in the Corps of Engineers. Huerta began his military career under President Porfirio Diaz; but advanced to a high rank during Madero's revolutionary administration. Huerta led a military coup against Madero, and assumed the presidency. Revolutionary forces deposed him the following year. The appointment offered here is dated just 8 days after Huerta came into power, and likely rewards the recipient for his part in Huerta's coup.
Condition: Flattened folds, and soiling on the exterior integral page. The center horizontal fold has separations which have been reinforced with archival tape. Paper seal on front is complete, and remains folded with a few spots of foxing.
