    Description

Varina Davis Autograph Letter Signed "V. Jefferson Davis". One page, 5" x 8", April 6, 1890, Beauvoir, Mississippi, to Mr. Dirmitry, concerning research done for her biography about her husband entitled Jefferson Davis, a Memoir. On lined paper, toned with some foxing and some separation along folds. With tape repairs on verso; near very good.

    More Information:

Varina Howell Davis (1826-1906) was eighteen years younger than her husband Jefferson Davis, who became the president of the Confederate States. In 1890, one year after Mr. Davis' death, Mrs. Davis began writing a biography of her husband which was published the same year. This letter reads in part: "Your brief was an intellectual flash, it was so exhaustive & so clean but I did not mean to ask you to perform such labor only to give me the merest outline of dates, names, etc. as my memory furnishes a great deal. If you do not like my account of the case I can state it at greater length thanks to your succinct condensation of it."

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
