Valentin Canalizo Manuscript Document Signed, one page with blank conjoined sheet, 8.5" x 10.5", General Headquarters, Monterey, June 28, 1839. Signed orders stating that the prisoner Victor de los Rios remain in jail and that he is including two testimonies with the order (not present). Signed "Valentin Canalizo" with his rubric, as Chief General of the Northern Division. At the time this order was signed, Canalizo would secure Monterey for the Centralists, leaving Colonel Jose Maria de Ortega in charge as he continued north in pursuit of the Federalists.

Canalizo believed in a conservative and centralist national government. He served under Filisola, and was a supporter and confidante of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. He commanded the Division of the North, under Filisola, in 1836. Canalizo would serve as acting president of Mexico on two occasions, in 1843 and 1844; in both instances being simply the proxy for Santa Anna who continued to make all important decisions and appointments.

In near fine condition with overall warm toning and bold ink. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
