    Union Generals Abner Doubleday Endorsement and John F. Reynolds Autograph Endorsement Signed. Placed on the integral blank of a two page letter, 8.25" x 10.75", "Headquarters 21st N.Y. Vols / Camp Barnett near Sharpsburg Md.," October 9, 1862, to Acting Assistant Adjutant General 1st Lt. Peter C. Doyle recommending twenty-six officers and enlisted men for promotion, including Doyle himself. Having first been approved by William Rogers, colonel in command of the 21st New York, the recommendation landed on the desk of Brig. Gen. Abner Doubleday at the headquarters of the 1st Division, 1st Corps on October 11. Gen. Doubleday signed his name approving the promotions and forwarded the list on to his commander, Brig. Gen. John F. Reynolds. Reynolds, commander of the 1st Army Corps, placed his own endorsement on October 11 before forwarding it on to the headquarters of the Army of the Potomac.

    Separation along the folds has been expertly repaired using archival tissue. Folds are toned with more significant toning along the folds and left edge of the fourth page. Spots of scattered foxing.
