    Ulysses S. Grant Photograph Signed "U. S. Grant/ Lt. Gen. U.S.A." Grant, who was appointed a lieutenant general by President Lincoln in March 1864, sits for this shot in his military uniform. Both image and signature are slightly faded. The signature rests in the white margin below the 6.25" x 9.5" image. Matted to an overall size of 11" x 12.5". Printed and visible on the verso is "F. Gutekunst, Photographer" with the date, April 1866, written in pencil; a revenue stamp rests above. The photographer's stamp can also be seen in the recto's lower left.
