William Taft Autograph Letter Signed with Initials "W.H.T." Four pages on two sheets of Superior Court of Cincinnati letterhead, 5.5" x 8.5"; November 19, 1888. A letter to his close friend Clarence Kelsey in response to receiving the news of the death of a mutual friend and Yale classmate, Scott Hurtt. A heartfelt letter blending empathy, humor, and news of his professional career. In part, "... It seems to me that you need a visit West. Perhaps you can establish here one of your rascally monopolies designed to take the bread from the mouths of us poor lawyers..." Later in the letter, he mentions a case involving the Western National Bank of New York. Taft had been appointed to the Superior Court of Cincinnati in 1887.

Condition: Usual mail folds are present with light toning throughout. Overall very good.
