    Description

William Henry Harrison Provision Return Signed "Wm H Harrison." One page, 8.25" x 4.25" (height varies), Green Vill [Greenville, Northwest Territory, present-day Ohio], March 2, 1795. Signed as aide-de-camp to General Anthony Wayne, Harrison authorizes a "Provision Return for Two [?] Men for two days at Ration half per day commencing 1 and Ending 2 both days." Unevenly toned with smoothed folds. The lower edge is unevenly torn. Several spots of foxing. Light ghosting of text.

William H. Harrison fought in the Northwest Indian War under "Mad" Anthony Wayne and participated in the Battle of Fallen Timbers, the final battle of the war. Later, in August of 1795, he attended the signing of the Treaty of Greenville [Ohio] which ended the war. In 1840, Harrison was elected as the ninth president of the United States. Thirty-two days later, he became the first president to die in office -- a victim of the common cold. His tenure as president has the distinction of being the shortest of any president.
