Description

William Henry Harrison Document Signed "Wm. H. Harrison." One page, 7.5" x 2.5", Greenville, Ohio, August 20, 1794. Signed as aide-de-camp to General "Mad Anthony" Wayne during the ongoing Northwest Indian War, Lt. Harrison here orders "fifty four pounds of beef & flour & thirty six giles[?] whiskey" for the Potawatomi Indians.

Harrison fought in the Northwest Indian War under General Wayne and participated in the Battle of Fallen Timbers, the final battle of the war. Later, in August of 1795, he attended the signing of the Treaty of Greenville which ended the war. In 1840, Harrison was elected as the ninth president of the United States. Thirty-two days later, he became the first president to die in office -- a victim of the common cold. His tenure as president has the distinction of being the shortest of any president.

Condition: Paper loss near the upper left corner and separation from a tear have been repaired by a strip of paper affixed along the right edge of the verso. One smoothed fold. Unevenly toned.
