Description
William H. Taft Typed Letter Signed as President-Elect. One page of a bifolium, 5.375" x 8.375", Washington, D.C.; December 11, 1908. Addressed to Henry Stockbridge, judge of the Baltimore City Supreme Bench and member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, on Taft's personalized lettered. In this letter, the president-elect declines an invitation to attend the society's next meeting as Taft, who'd recently won the Presidential election of 1908, would be too busy to participate. It reads, in part:"...I thank you and the members of the executive committee very much for this kind invitation, which I must decline. I do not know what my engagements will be at that time, but it is likely that I shall be under such pressure of official matters that it will not be possible for me to accept." Signed, "Wm. H. Taft."
It is accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA and what appears to be a photogravure of Taft by Elmer Chickering in Boston.
Condition: Smoothed folds. Lightly toned.
