    Description

Warren G. Harding Manuscript on Lincoln, "The Tenderest and Truest." Typed Manuscript Signed, as Senator, entitled "Lincoln - The Tenderest and Truest", 1 page, 5.25" x 6.75", on the letterhead of the United States Senate but dated Marion, Ohio, July 27, 1920. In Fine condition, although the gimlet eye will perceive that the bottom blank half of the leaf has a slight smudge, and two miniscule pinholes. Of special interest is when one President remarks on another: when the other is Lincoln, the remarks are important. In full: "The English language has been exhausted in extolling Abraham Lincoln, which but proves that he is superior to praise. Perhaps in all the world's history he had no prototype. Unschooled he was learned; untutored he was thoroughly a gentleman. He had the gift of the scholar and the graces of speech of the most polished orator. His 'firmness in the right' absolves him from any charge of weakness. But he will live throughout the ages for his gentleness and humanity." From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
