    Ulysses S. Grant Extradition Order Signed "U. S. Grant" as president. Two pages, 10.5" x 15.5", Washington, February 2, 1877, ordering Thomas Sampson to receive "...Thomas Ellis charged with the crime of Forgery in the third degree...a fugitive from the justice of the United States, in the Dominion of Canada..." He is further directed to "...take and hold him in your custody and conduct him from...the Dominion of Canada...into the United States, there to the proper authorities of the State of New York." Countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish. Blind embossed Seal of the President affixed to upper left of second page. With an engraved portrait of Grant. Folds are weak and detached in several places; repairs have been made to some sections. Light, uneven toning, especially at the folds.
