Description

Thomas Jefferson Autograph Letter Signed with Franked Cover Addressed in His Hand. One page and detached cover, 7.8" x 9.75"; Monticello; September 10, 1822. A letter to George W. Ewing: "I received yesterday your favor if the 3d & hasten to say that I shall be at home during the whole of this month and shall be happy to receive the visit with which you promise to honor me, whenever most convenient to yourself; and to express to you in person the pleasure which such a favor will ever give me. With this assurance be pleased to accept that of my great esteem and respect. Th. Jefferson."

Together with the original address cover written by Jefferson, and including a franking signature, "free / Th Jefferson". George W. Ewing is likely the son of Revolutionary War veteran George Ewing, who served with George Washington at Valley Forge.

Condition: Previous framing has caused uneven toning and mat burn. The address cover has paper loss along the bottom where the seal was torn open, and mounting remnants. Ink remains bold, and would be ideal for framing. Includes an engraving of Jefferson.
