"My dear Senator Miller: I wish I could be present at the dinner to be given by your associates, with my old friend Admiral Coghlan presiding, to General Mills. It has been my good fortune to have served with General Mills in battle, and he is the type of American officer of whom the whole American people should be proud. May all good fortune go with him everywhere. Sincerely yours, Theodore Roosevelt".

During the Battle of San Juan Hill, he was shot in the head, yet continued to command his men despite suffering temporary blindness. After the war he was appointed as Superintendent at West Point. The dinner Roosevelt was invited to was held in honor of Mills' retirement from this position.

Condition: Photograph slightly silvering with small crease near the top. Letter is slightly toned.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
