Theodore Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed as President. One page on White House letterhead, 7" x 8.75"; Oyster Bay, N.Y.; August 27, 1908. A letter to Robert U. Johnson, associate editor at The Century Magazine: "I entirely agree with you and Mr. Gilder that it would be far better not to have that article published until after November, simply because in the closing days of a campaign it is not wise to publish anything of the kind that can arouse any comment [Roosevelt crosses out the word comment and writes in "controversy"]. Roosevelt is possibly referencing an article titled "A High Price to Pay for Water," regarding the Hetch Hetchy dam and reservoir debate. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.

Condition: With flattened folds, and light creasing. Previous dealer's pricing and notes in pencil along left margin. The signature and holographic edit have faded a bit, but remains quite visible.
