Description
Theodore Roosevelt Indenture Signed with Two Related Indentures. Group of three documents related to the transfer of ownership of the Roosevelt Family home on 20th Street in Gramercy Park, Manhattan, birthplace of President Theodore Roosevelt. The site, though ravaged by fire, was renovated and restored. It now operates under the authority of the National Park Service.Cornelius and Margaret Roosevelt Signed Indenture. Two pages, 10.5" x 16.25", New York; October 4, 1854. Document transferring ownership of 28 E. 20th Street (a 25' x 92' parcel of land) from Cornelius V. S. and Margaret Roosevelt to their son Theodore (1831-1878) for the consideration of $1. Signed by Cornelius and Margaret Roosevelt at bottom.
Theodore Roosevelt Indenture Signed. Two pages, 10.5" x 16.5", New York; May 28, 1884. Document transferring the same property (bequeathed by Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. to his children in 1878) from Theodore Roosevelt, brother Elliott Roosevelt and his wife, sister Corinne Roosevelt and her husband, to sister Anna L. Roosevelt. The transfer also involves Piers No. 9 and 10 on the East River. The notarized document contains the signatures of the parties on the second page, along with that of witnesses. Top signature belongs to Theodore Roosevelt.
James A. Roosevelt Indenture signed. Three pages, 10.5" x 16.5", New York; May 28, 1884. Document transferring the same property from James A. Roosevelt, uncle of President Roosevelt, and James K. Gracie, executors of the estate of Theodore Roosevelt, Sr., to Anna L. Roosevelt, for the consideration of $34,000. It is notarized and signed by those two gentlemen on the third page.
Condition: Some offsetting from red wax seals where documents were folded. Usual tears along old folds, largest measuring 2" to Theodore Roosevelt signed document. Toned and rubbed in places with some creasing.
