Description

Theodore Roosevelt Commission Signed "Theodore Roosevelt" as President and "Elihu Root" as Secretary of War, one page, 15.5" x 19.5". Washington, December 5, 1903. In part, "Know Ye, that reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity, and abilities of Norman H. Davis I have nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, do appoint him Second Lieutenant of Cavalry by transfer from the Infantry Army, March 27, 1903, in the service of the United States: to rank as such from the nineteenth day of October nineteen hundred and two..." Folds, lightly penned, including the signatures, but completely legible, bearing a blue seal in the lower left, with military vignettes at the top and bottom. It's ironic that a military commission issued by the Department of War would be signed by the first two American winners of the Nobel Peace Prize, Theodore Roosevelt (1906) and Elihu Root (1912). Fine condition.
