Description
Theodore Roosevelt Autograph Letter Signed. Three pages of a bifolium, 8.75" x 6.75", New York; February 8, 1889. Letter to Douglas Brymner (1823-1902), a Canadian politician, journalist, civil servant, and archivist, in which he writes about research for his multi-volume book, The Winning of the West, which was published in 1896. "I wrote you a week ago asking if I could have more copies made of the Haldimand papers, which I have just seen cataloged in your valuable "Report for 1887." I am in immediate need of letters, for the volume I...am writing has just been sent to the press; and I am very anxious to give the loyalist report of some of the Revolutionary operations. I will gladly pay in advance for any copying; I would not trouble you but I do not know to whom else to write." Signed, "Theodore Roosevelt."Roosevelt wrote this letter at a time he thought his political career had ended. He had run for mayor of New York City in 1886 and lost the election. He then devoted his free time to research and writing The Winning of the West.
Condition: Flattened mail folds with minor ink spotting that does not affect text; otherwise good.
