    Description

    Theodore Roosevelt Autograph Letter Signed. One card written on both sides, 5" x 4", Washington, D.C; July 23, 1889. Roosevelt writes to G.P. Putnam's sons: "Gentlemen, Please send a copy of my book, to (Winning of the West) Dr. Geo. Rev. Johnston, Richmond, Va, and another to Congressman Thomas Reed, Portland, Me. (or, if not found, try House of Reps, Washington). and oblige. Yours art. Theodore Roosevelt. Put in compliments of author."

    Theodore Roosevelt was an ardent outdoorsman and wrote various works on the American West, after a brief stint as a rancher in Montana. The first two volumes of The Winning of the West were published in 1889, Volume III was released in 1894, Volume IV in 1896. He also was instrumental in conservation efforts and the establishment of the National Park Service. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.

    Condition: Toned with some light soiling on verso. Small amount of creasing at top corner. Signature is bold.
