"Our precious little Neddie died this morning at 9:30–his mother and I go to Hiram to bury him. A brief service will be held at our house here, at 6 this evening–just before we start. Come to us if you can..." Edward "Neddie" Garfield was the seventh and youngest of the children born to James and his wife Lucretia. He was born on Christmas Day in 1874 and died just two months shy of his second birthday. Clean and bright –a rare letter of a personal nature.
