Rutherford B. Hayes Signed Annual Message (Washington, D.C.: Government Printing Office, 1880), 34 pages, 8vo (5.75" x 9.25"). Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822-1893) became the 19th President of the United States by virtue of one electoral vote following a hotly contested election in which he actually lost the popular count by 250,000 votes. This pamphlet is inscribed on the front cover in the top margin "With my compliments R B Hayes" The cover is partially split at the spine and stained on the back; the inscription and signature have faded.
