Description

Rutherford B. Hayes Document Signed "R B Hayes", countersigned by Secretary of State William Evarts, one page, partially printed, 17" x 11", Washington, D.C., June 23, 1880, a presidential appointment naming H. B. Armistead of Arkansas an "Alternate Commissioner, under and by virtue of the act of Congress 'to provide for celebrating the one hundredth anniversary of the treaty of peace and the recognition of American independence, by holding an international exhibition of arts, manufactures, and products of the soil and mine...' in the City of New York...". Affixed with embossed presidential seal. Old repair to upper right corner, even toning, a few ink stains on upper edge. Very good condition. Lot includes cabinet card engraving of Hayes.
