    Description

Poignant Franklin Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed Regarding the Conclusion of WW I. Written on Navy Dept. letterhead (FDR was Assistant Secretary) 9 November, 1918. 8.0" x 10.25", extremely fine, but for the two original creases where folded for mailing. Apparently written in response to a letter of congratulations for winning the war. FDR writes, "What you say is the kind of thing that hearten anybody who is doing the work for the Nation in this crisis."

"That news of yesterday was premature, to say the least (false report of an Armistice), but by the time you get this we will know one way or the other." From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
