Millard Fillmore Signed Presidential Appointment. Appointment of George F. P. Smith as Surveyor and Inspector of the Revenue for the Port of Snow Hill in the State of Maryland, 16.75" x 13.25", partly printed executive certificate signed, "Millard Fillmore" affixed with the seal of the Treasury Department, Washington, D.C., September 27, 1850. Fillmore (1800-1874), the 13th President of the United States, was the last member of the Whig Party to serve in the White House. He became President after the death of Zachary Taylor in 1850 and failed to win re-election two years later. He signed this appointment early in his term, just two months after taking office. In good condition with folds, creases, small chips at the corners and borders, and reinforced on the verso with archival tape. The handwritten portions have not folded and are boldly legible.
