Description

Millard Fillmore Autograph Letter Signed as President. One-page with integral blank, 6.25" x 8". Washington, D.C.; December 28, 1850. A letter to Joseph Gales and William Seaton forwarding a bill to the National Intelligencer: "The enclosed bill of the Bk of Dansville for $3 was received from J. P. Rounsville with the request that I would send it to the National Intelligencer..." Accompanied by an engraving of Fillmore after a daguerreotype by Whitehurst.
Condition: The letter has vertical and horizontal folds, but otherwise in is good condition. The engraving exhibits foxing on the left hand side of and below the image of Fillmore.


More Information:

Joseph Gales, Jr. (1786-1860), along with his brother-in-law William W. Seaton (1785-1866), managed the Whig newspaper, the National Intelligencer.
