Mary Todd Lincoln Autograph Letter Signed "Mary Lincoln" Transmittal Cover with Franking Signature. Four pages on mourning letterhead, 4.75" x 7.25". Racine, Wisconsin; July 29, [1867]. A letter to Mrs. Edward Fowler, a neighbor and mother of a playmate of Tad's. Mary writes of her poor health and recent mishaps, pleading that Mrs. Fowler visit. Also, sends news of Robert's business troubles. In part: " ...Most of my time the last two weeks has been passed in bed... About two weeks since - one very warm morning, I walked three miles - returned greatly exhausted, with consequence you can understand - and for five days was not able to sit up... just as I was recovering my strength about six days ago, I slipped down several stairs freshly washed and have been scarcely able to move a limb since... Robert's partner C Scammon has been sent to a lunatic asylum - liquor the trouble... Tad is very lonesome... Mary Lincoln."

    Together with the original transmittal envelope addressed in her hand and containing a franking signature.

    Condition: Letter has usual mail folds with light toning and scattered foxing. Envelope has soiling and has been torn open along the left side with paper loss not affecting any of the holograph.
