Description
John Quincy Adams Letter Signed. One page, Department of State, Washington; March 18, 1819. In this letter addressed to the Governor of Pennsylvania [William Findlay], Adams writes that he is enclosing a book. Written while Adams was Secretary of State under President James Monroe. The letter is docketed on the verso. It reads in full: "In pursuance of a Resolution of Congress, of the 23 rd of January last, I have the pleasure to transmit to you herewith, one copy of Seybert's ‘Statistical Annals.' As it will be satisfactory to know that the volume reaches you in safety, I will thank you to acknowledge the receipt of it to this Department. I have the honor to be, Sir, very respectfully, your obedient servant." Signed, "John Quincy Adams."Adam Seybert (1773-1825) was a physician and Representative from Pennsylvania from 1809-1815. He also authored Statistical Annals: Embracing Views of the Population, Commerce, Navigation, Fisheries, Public Lands, Post-office Establishment, Revenues, Mint, Military and Naval Establishments, Expenditures, Public Debt, and Sinking Fund of the United States of America in 1818.
Condition: .5" closed tear on left margin at integral fold. Partially erased pencil notation on recto. Pencil notation on verso. Lightly toned, especially concentrated along the creases.
