John Quincy Adams Letter Signed "John Quincy Adams". One page, 7.75" x 10", Department of State, Washington; November 18, 1823. A letter addressed to James Brown Esquire, written in an unknown hand. A letter in which Brown is appointed as an ambassador to France, reading in full:

"The President of the United States having determined to appoint forthwith a Minister, with the Character of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, to proceed to France, has directed me to inform you of his wish, that the appointment may be acceptable to you. In the discharge of which duty, I would add the assurance of my own hope, that it may be compatible with your views and convenience. In that case, on receiving your answer, the Instructions for the Mission will be prepared as speedily as practicable, and the President desires that your departure may be effected at an early date." Boldly signed by Adams as Secretary of State.

Condition: Moderate toning and slight mat burn around edges of letter, with a small area of chipping and paper loss at top edge. Usual mail folds; it appears that a separation occurred along the entire centerfold, but was repaired with additional paper on verso, possibly with contemporary paper.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
