John Quincy Adams Autograph Letter Signed "J.Q. Adams." One page, 8" x 10", Washington D.C., May 6, 1847. The letter was written to Jonathan Wild Esquire, and was penned by Adams while he was serving as a congressman for the state of Massachusetts. The content is of a legal nature, as it discusses several forms sent to Wild in conformity with certain Acts; it reads in part: "…Your enclosed certificate that your mother Deborah Wild is still living and I now enclose to you two pension certificates…in conformity with the Act of July 7th 1838, and resolution of January 28th 1845…." The Act of July 7th 1838 allowed certain widows to certain pensions and half pay. Most of the Acts and Resolutions in this letter deal with widows, and their right to money and property. A fascinating look into property rights during the 19th century!

The letter is in fine condition; usual folds are present; the last half inch of the letter is taped onto the larger section, it was cut off another page most likely and reattached; small stain in the center of the body of the letter. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
