John F. Kennedy Typed Letter Signed "John Kennedy". One page on White House letterhead, 6.75" x 9", November 8, 1961. Kennedy writes to Norman Cousins about efforts by the United States Information Agency (USIA) to broadcast propaganda in the Soviet Union: "... As you already know from Ed Murrow's letter to you, USIA is trying to tell the Russian people the facts about atmospheric testing, and the world's reaction to it. You may be interested in the enclosed announcement of a special project of the Voice of America - a massing of transmitters for special broadcasts to the Soviet Union about the tests." Boldly signed in black ink.

The Voice of America broadcasting first began in 1942 as a way to connect with and boost morale of the America's allies. After the war, it became a propaganda tool, one which Kennedy sought to maximize by appointing noted television newscaster Edward R. Murrow as director of the USIA. Murrow was instrumental in crafting how the administration would be presented to the world. He served as an advisor to Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Ex. Norman Cousins Estate.

Condition: Lightly toned along bottom edge, with a small area of soiling above Kennedy's signature.
