    Description

John F. Kennedy: Signed Copy of "Profiles in Courage". (New York: Harper & Brothers, 1956), 266 pages, photographic plates, quarter black over blue cloth boards, spine in gilt, dust jacket, signed on the front end page "To Fred-- with the very warmest regards-- John Kennedy May-1958 " The book is in excellent condition with light shelf wear. Senator Kennedy wrote this, his second book, while recovery from back surgery in 1954-5. He was aided in his efforts by speechwriter Ted Sorenson and research assistants. Printed at the end of 1955, it was officially released to the public on January 1, 1956, and became a best-seller, receiving the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1957. The signature, which dates from JFK's time as a U.S. Senator, is clear and bold, making this a prime example of his most famous book. The recipient was Fred Eckert, a future State Senator with New York, U.S. Congressman and Ambassador to Fiji. He was, at the time, a high school student with a keen interest in history and politics.
