John F. Kennedy: Revealing War-time Letters. When JFK was in the Navy during World War Two, the letters he sent to family and loved ones were copied and the copies distributed to the Kennedy clan. We offer five such typed copies from the period. Three of the letters are dated 1943, but they likely all date from that year. The recipients are: Family, Mother and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma, Dad, and Zekie Boy. The letters display JFK's fantastic sense of humor which would be a hallmark in years to come. "Kathleen reports that even a fortune teller says that I'm coming back in one piece. I hope it won't be taken as a sign of lack of confidence in you all or the Church if I continue to duck... Admiral Halsey inspected us yesterday and I tried to look broken down so he would send me home... Have my own boat now and have as an executive officer a 220 tackle from Ohio State, so when the next big drive comes will be well protected... the native keep their gals well hidden. Exactly why I cannot tell, as from the pictures I have seen better looking girls at a Harvard football game... I am in a bad spot now for getting out as I am now Captain of a gun-boat. It's the first one they've ever had of its type. It's a former P.T. and is very interesting. It was sort of a dubious honor to be given the first, so I will have to stick around and try to make a go of it..." These are just a few of the highlights. A letter of provenance from the family accompanies the lot.
