John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Inscribed with Correspondence. This 1961 edition is inscribed by the president on a front endpaper, "To Eileen Healy/ with best wishes/ John Kennedy." (New York: Harper Brothers, 1961), 266 pages, photographic plates, dust jacket. Light shelf wear.Also included are several items, most dated in the 1960s, from Rose Kennedy to Eileen Healy of New York City.
1. Color photograph (10" x 8") of a state dinner including John Kennedy, Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson, and Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia.
2. Mrs. Joseph P. Kennedy Calling Card (the name has been struck-through). On the verso Rose Kennedy has written, "The President autographed this book for you here at Palm Beach at Easter. [Signed] Rose Kennedy."
3. Rose Kennedy Typed Letter Signed. One page, Hyannis Port, December 7, 1966, to Eileen Healy suggesting that she "buy tickets to the Nutcracker Suite with this money." Accompanying the letter is a facsimile of a check for $10 to Healy from Rose Kennedy.
4. Cynthia Stone (secretary to Rose Kennedy) Typed Letter Signed to Eileen Healy concerning a dress. One page, March 4, 1966.
5. Rose Kennedy Autograph Note Signed to "Dear Eileen" Healy on a White House card with White House envelope. Rose Kennedy writes, "I came down here to be hostess for the King Emperor Haile Selassie I, and it has been very interesting."
6. Rose Kennedy Typed Letter Signed to "Miss Healy." One page, January 7, 1963, on White House letterhead reading in part, "It was a great pleasure to hear from you. This is a short note from Washington, where I arrived this morning. Tomorrow we are going to the French Embassy to dinner, later to the National Art Gallery to see the Mona Lisa, which has just arrived from Paris."
7. "Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Patrick Kennedy" Printed Sympathy Thank You Card mailed one month after the death of President John Kennedy. The letter, along with the accompanying envelope, are bordered in black and reads in part, "thank you sincerely for your prayers and sympathy which are deeply appreciated."
