Description

"For Peter - who helped make this picture possible"

John F. Kennedy Inscribed Photograph Signed to Peter Lawford. One page, 14.75" x 17.5" (sight), Washington, n. d. [circa 1961]. President Kennedy is seen sitting behind the Resolute desk in the Oval Office in this chest up, color portrait. Below the photograph, on the matting, Kennedy has inscribed the photograph to his brother-in-law, British actor Peter Lawford: "For Peter - who helped make this picture possible. with all the best - Jack -"

Lawford (1923-1984), lovingly called "Brother-in-Lawford" by JFK, married Kennedy's younger sister, Patricia, in 1954. He became an American citizen in April, 1960, just in time to vote for Kennedy during the 1960 presidential election. Through his influence as a member of the Rat Pack, fellow "board members" Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Joey Bishop backed Kennedy for president, thereby increasing Kennedy's popularity and appeal by giving him a bit of Hollywood's glamour.

Light toning to the matting, else fine.
