Description

John F. Kennedy Autograph Letter Signed "John Kennedy." Three pages (on two sheets of Senate letterhead), 8" x 10.5", Washington, D.C.; December 30, [1953]. Addressed to a Mr. Hilborne, and written in blue ink on personalized U.S. Senate letterhead. The letter reads, in part:

"I hope you will excuse my bad writing, some to thank you very much for your assistance on my speech at the University of Montreal. Teddy has told me that you have received a copy of the speech and you will see that material from your notes runs all through the speech. There was a good audience present and I hope it made it clear to them that a Senator's voice is not always that of the United States government..."

On December 4, 1953, Kennedy gave a speech at the University of Montreal regarding the history and future of the United States' relationship with Canada. Kennedy focused on the importance of keeping and strengthening the relationship between the two countries, despite recent tensions over the Saint Lawrence Seaway. This was Kennedy's first trip to Canada.

Condition: Flattened folds, light toning. Otherwise very good. Boldly signed by Kennedy.
