    Description

John F. Kennedy and Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.: Captain's Log Book Signed, 1938. Leather-bound captain's log book imprinted "LOUIS BRADY" in gold on cover, 5.5" x 8", heavy deckled pages, 156 pp, aboard the SS Forde, June 20, 1938, containing approximately 900 signatures of royalty, statesmen, artists, musicians, writers, actors, athletes, military officers, and other celebrated persons of the 1930s. Captain Louis Brady's personal log book sat on the captain's bridge from 1930 to 1939. During this time, Captain Brady skippered the SS Forde, which acted as a ferry carrying passengers across the English Channel from Dover to Calais and back again. The privileged and esteemed were invited to the captain's deck to pen their name upon entering. On June 20, 1938, a twenty-one-year-old John Kennedy and his older brother Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. boarded the Forde and signed the log in black fountain pen ink. To the right of his name, "Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.," Joseph wrote "U. S. Embassy June 20, 1938," and to the right of his name, "John F. Kennedy," his younger brother John also wrote "U. S. Embassy" in the margin, identifying that as their residence. At the time, their father, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. was serving as American Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Amongst the luminaries who also signed are Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr., G. K. Chesterton, Florence Desmond, the Archduke and Archduchess Franz Josef, and Shelagh Princess of Liechtenstein. This log book is certainly worthy of research. Leather cover is worn; binding is split, but holds together; some foxing to pages. Otherwise, in overall fine condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
