Description

James Monroe Land Grant Signed. One partially printed sheet of vellum, 16 1/8 x 9 3/4 inches; City of Washington; March 1, 1822. A land grant awarding "Abraham Barnes of Claiborne County... lot No. one of fractional section No. Fifty eight of Township No. Eleven of Range No. Three, East, in the district of Washington west of Pearl River, and State of Mississippi, containing One hundred and twelve acres..." Signed, "James Monroe" as President of the United States, and countersigned by Joseph Meigs as Commissioner of the General Land Office. Blind embossed seal at bottom left margin. Docketed on verso.

Condition: Stored folded with deep folds. Light toning, offsetting, staining, and some foxing throughout. Edgewear to seal with red adhesive visible along the upper edge, and cracked fully across the center. Pencil notation at top left corner of recto.
