Description

James Monroe Land Document Signed as President. One page, 11.75" x 7.75", partly printed, vellum, Washington, January 31, 1820. William Prather of Clark County Indiana has made "full payment...for the South East quarter of Section One in Township...of Range Eight East Containing One Hundred and Sixty Acres of the Lands directed to be sold at Jeffersonville..." It is signed at the conclusion by James Monroe as president and Joseph Meigs, son of Monroe's postmaster general Return Meigs, as commissioner of the General Land Office. Folds, ink a bit faded but legible, a pinhole, else very good. The wafer seal is intact and the Monroe signature is bold and dark. It is double matted with a vintage engraving and framed to an overall size of 25.5" x 15.5". Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
