Description

James Monroe Document Signed "James Monroe." One page, 13" x 9.25", Washington, D.C., April 26, 1818. This land grant was written for James Riddle of Montgomery County, Ohio. It reads in part, "…whereby it appears that full payment has been made for the South West quarter of section twenty five of township five in range seven of the land lying between the Great Miami river and the Virginia reservation, sold under the direction of the Register of the Land Office at Cincinnati…" Monroe signs this document in the lower right, as President of the United States, and it is countersigned by Josiah Meigs, Commissioner of the General Land Office. The 2.25" seal of the General Land Office is affixed at the left. The land grant is framed and backed by a dark red mat.

The document is in fine condition; usual folds are present; some separations occurring along vertical fold lines near the upper edge. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
