    James Madison Signed Scallop Top Ship's Passport. Partly printed on velum, 10.25" x 15.5"; May 13, 1815. Countersigned by James Madison, and originally issued to "Ship Quincy of Boston, Richard Uranus, Master" but cancelled with a large X, and within which is noted: "a present received at the custom house in Boston to put papers in for my side pocket. J Dorr." Docketed on the verso: "Joseph Dorr's Property / May 28 1816 --". Together with 2 engravings of Monroe and one of Madison.

    Condition: Blind embossed paper seal is lacking. Heavy creasing and toning throughout. Deep horizontal folds. Flattened folds affect Madison's signature, which has lightened in some areas. Monroe's signature remains quite bold.
