Description
James Madison Signed Military Appointment Signed as President "James Madison". One page, on vellum, 14.5" x 10", City of Washington, April 20, 1815, appointing "Lawrence U. Gale... a third lieutenant in the thirty fifth regiment of Infantry." Countersigned by Alexander J. Dallas as Acting Secretary of War. Madison's signature has faded to about 70%, but remains very visible; Dallas' signature likewise. The document has been matted and permanently mounted to a backing. The document is toned and slightly soiled, the seal in the lower left corner has been removed, there are old fold creases and the ink is modestly faded, otherwise it is in overall good condition.Auction Info
