James Madison Scallop Top Ship's Passport Signed "James Madison." Large partially-printed sheet of vellum, 10" x 16"; Gloucester, Massachusetts; April 27, 1811. A scallop top ship's passport issued to Abraham Williams Jr., master of the schooner Hannah of Manchester: "... the burthen of Seventy and 34/95 tons or there abouts mounted with no guns navigated with Seven men ..." With two vignettes of a sailing ship and lighthouse at top. Signed by James Madison as president and Robert Smith as secretary of state; countersigned by John Kittredge as collector. With blind embossed seal.

Condition: Light toning, vertical and horizontal folds, light soiling on embossed seal. President Madison's signature is clear and clean, very good condition.
